(Photo by Mohammed Ismail/AP) HAMAS: A group of Iranian Shi’ite leaders have been expelled from their country, including the leader of the Shia sect and the deputy chairman of the Supreme Leader’s office, as reports in Iran claim. Hamas is a key player in Iran’s Shiite struggle against Iranian power. As well as Hosein Ahmad Barakeh, the group expelled includes the group’s deputy chief, Muhammad Hamadani (pictured). Ahmad Barakeh, Ahmad Hossein and Ismail Khonsari are also listed as members of Hamas in the report. This comes after reports that the Iranian authorities suspended the group’s regional arm of Hamas, Al Quds Force, in December 2010. In December 2009, a number of Iranian Shi’ite leaders (including Barakeh) had been sentenced to death, including Mohsen Saeidi, a member of a branch of Ahmadiyya Muslim sect that claimed responsibility for the 2006 attack on a Shia mosque in central Tehran that killed 85 people. The group was subsequently suspended. As Iran’s parliament prepares to debate a bill to reform the judiciary later this month, Hamas activists have threatened to shut down the ministry of justice.
